Lacrimosa- A Short, short, short piece of writing

Hallooo...
Just thought I might pester you some more with a little bit of writing practice. 'Twas a challenge, you had to write a short little piece of writing on the theme: Lacrimosa
(Lacrimosa means 'Weeping', and was part of the Requeim for the Dead.)

Lacrimosa
Breath shallow in his lungs, the boy writhed in his cot, gasping wildly for his last few seconds of life. His face, pallid and ashen, was covered by a glossy sheen of perspiration.
Only hours ago had the small choirboy’s voice been soaring high within the walls of the church, only mere hours ago had he been a piercing soprano in Dies Irae.

Had the shadows sprung so quickly? The demons stalked so swiftly? The boy who sung in the Requeim for the Dead was soon to be amongst the very dead he sung to.
Beside the ebbing choirboy, his mother howled, tears pouring down her cheeks as she begged her Son to speak again, as she pleaded for a saviour to offer his life to him once more.
She knew if she got too close- if she so much as touched her cherished Son, she too would be felled by the screaming terror of the Plague that ravished the beauty of France with such heart-stopping ease.

The world, for all of a second stood still as the young Choirboy took a final, hoarse breath of air, and fell back against the hard pillow. The pale pallor dragged all remaining colour from his face, pulling the struggling light of life from his eyes.
His fellow choirboys chanted, and his mother whimpered as the closest Monk reached for the boy’s eyes and gently rest them shut.
And never again did they open.
