| Why the heck am I here? Gem questioned herself. Why am I always drawn to this place? She added, shadowing herself even more under the parosel she held. To a human, a day like today was one not be missed. The sun was shining brightly. The sea-a deep saphire colour, Gem almost laughed at the irony-was gleaming. The sand was golden and soft. And the various stalls around were selling things cheaper than ever. To a vampire, today was a day where, really, they should stay inside. Cover all the windows, lock the doors, go to sleep, ready for the day-night?-ahead of them. Lure humans someplace, suck blood, giggle at feeble attemps to escape, laugh more when the human is shunned by people who think his tales are crazy. Gem yawned, her hand automatically closing around the chain on her neck. It shimmered for a moment, seeming to protest against what the wearer was doing, before laying still once more. "Yes. When you're locked away, I'm in charge." | |

| The vampire sighed. Ever since coming back to Trankingdom, she'd become more serious than she had been before. It was strange. But...it was something to be figured out later on. Foolish, she thought. Useless to hide.
Seconds passed. She was unsure of how to tackle the situation. Her hand, which had relaxed, tightened again, concealing the stone from view.
"I know you're there." | |

| Gem heard the control in the being's voice. It was something she could relate too.
Not that she'd give it away.
But whatever was happening right now appeared to be driving a wedge between the two. She peered through her lashes at the other. Yes, control was being applied. Gem had decided to be wary-cautious, even-of new encounters. When she'd met everyone on that day, she'd been a little too...dramatic. That was just the danger of having the two sides of herself mixed. She blushed at the memory, turning away slightly. Showing emotion was her old down-fall too. Except when she felt comfortable doing so. However. That memory felt like it had happened a lifetime ago. There were more pressing matters. "Don't hold it in."
I understand her more than she thinks.
"Let it out."
If it's something she's feeling, she won't scratch me.
"Stop trying to control your voice," Gem said, sounding both bored and slightly hard. It was a far cry from how she normally was. But it was midday. "If something's happening or something's wrong or even if it's something else, just go for it."

| Gem blinked, almost surprised. She's fast! She shook her head, as if trying to remove thoughts.
No matter.
"I won't deny it." She yawned once more, just enough for the senser to see the fangs in her mouth. "Although I'm not fully agreeing either." She smirked. "Not like this. Otherwise, yes, I am." She dropped her hand from the pendant. "I'm tired and...thirsty." She continued. Deep down, this wasn't what Gem wanted to say. It was her own fault for walking out during the day. It could-and was-mess up normal actions.
Stop being like this. Stop scaring people. Act more like you normally do.
She shook her head again, accidently exposing herself momentarily to the sun. Gem flinched. "That hurt more than it should. But at least it's proven."

| "Be careful," Gem advised. "Be careful around me. It doesn't matter which species I take blood from. As long as they have blood, I am a...threat to them. Unless I can be firm in my desicion." She let the warning hang in the air for a moment before deciding to talk again. She wouldn't apologise, she would just tone it down. "I...look like a human?" She asked, flattered and shocked. "Really? No one told me that before..." Gem smiled warmly. "And I, um, can't...I can't see it for myself. Being a vamp, is all. The only thing I know is that I attract attention from human males, and that I'm...scary in vampire form." She bowed her head, feeling kind of dejected. "But...thank you." | |

| Gem shrugged, continuing with the feeling of dejection. "I guess." She put a finger out into in the light, purposely this time. It hurt a lot. It was like being splashed with water. Her face crinkled a little. "I wasn't imagining it." She quickly brought her finger back under the shade and watched it heal. "I am sorry, I did not introduce myself. I'm Gem Jewel." She paused, then grinned her dazzling grin. "I'm a creature of the night. I'm a vampire." | |

| Gem laughed a little. "Don't worry. This parosel works just fine. As long as I'm careful myself..." She stopped laughing and replaced it with a blank look. I'm always getting into some sort of trouble. And I'm always having to be talked out of stuff. I suppose I'll never learn... | |

| Electrons were sent through Athrodites tail; confusion, self anger Other apparently useless thoughts. "Aren't vampires weaker in the water or when very close to water?" | |

| Gem folded her arms, almost impatiently."Catch on already!" She sighed, untensing and putting a hand to her head. "I'm sorry. I'm acting very badly. I knew I should've rested for a day. But all my friends come out in the day..." She trailed off. This was no time for pathetic complaining and whining. "It depends on the type of water. If it's pure water, you consider me numbered. It hurts a lot. On the outside it looks like electricution," Gem explained, shifting her feet. "It's happened to me twice. But let's not dwell on my stakes of survival," she added, smiling uncertainly. "If the water is neutralised by something-like herbs or salt for example-then I'll be okay. That's why, right now, I'm not weakened by standing here. Sea water is salty, therefore it is neutral. Well, in my way of seeing things...which I guess, to scienctists is wrong, but hey." She shrugged again, still smiling uncertainly. "I could totally bore you to death about my kind, but if someone isn't interested, effort is wasted on both sides. Besides, I only know weaknesses and strengths." Gem laughed. "They're the only thing I can bore people to death about." | |

| "Ahhh.. This water is: 4 parts pure, 2 parts salty, 3 parts muddy and 1 part clear. So you might have trouble..." And with that she dived down to the bottom of the sea. She was looking for a conch (Pronounced c-on-k) shell as it had healing powers.... | |

| "O-oh." She was surprised again. I haven't met that many people that are so...knowledgeable. Although, she thought, smiling to herself under the parosel. Everybody I've met-apart from Koniko-have been very caring. It's nice. A small amount of colour came into her cheeks. "Where are you goi-" Gem started to ask before Athrodite dived under the waves. "O-kaay...?" | |

| "Really?" Gem asked, fascinated. "I didn't know that. Could you tell me more about the magic of the sea, please? I promise I'll try not be so foul. I guess I feel a little more relaxed now," she added, walking up to the edge of the water and taking the magical conch. Gingerly, Gem closed the parosel, closing both eyes and hoping it would work. It didn't feel any different. She couldn't feel the rays burning her skin, so she opened one eye. Then the other. A smile appeared on her face and her green eyes lit up for the first time since receiving the necklace that had changed their colour. "It works!" Gem cried joyfully, spinning around on one foot whilst still cluching the conch. "Oh, Athodite, it works! Thank you so much! But...why did you help me? I was being so horrid..." | |

| Gem beamed. "Yeah! Even us moody, shouldn't-come-out-right-now-'cause-I'm-tired vampires!" As she spoke, one hand grabbed the pendant hung around her neck. | |

| Gem's beam faded and became a small, twisted smile. It reminded her of that time in the jungle. That time when something that had been said made her feel funny, bittersweet. "Yes," she said in a low voice, the one she adopted when things were either making her very happy or when she felt uncomfortable. "My prefered diet is, um, human blood. I used to drink a lot of animal blood but now I have the pendant, I can do both." Gem didn't explain straight away; it was fairly creepy and if Athodite was curious, she'd ask. | |

| Gem shook her head, her dark hair swinging wildly. "Nothing-nothing-can stop the thirst. Or the changing," she answered, her voice going hard and, at the same time, sad. "A vampire nearly always thirsts for blood. Because it is our nature, nothing can affect the way we are. Apart from the weaknesses..." It made her lose her train of thought for a moment. "The same is with the changing. Weaknesses...Um, anyway! That's what this is for!" Gem gestered to the necklace around her neck, before turning away. | |
