In the reasearch he had been subconciusly preforming since his arrival, this Family Tree had once been the object of worship for the naitive peoples, beleaving the limbs and leaves to be the eyes and hands of the dead, reaching out into the living world. Gem strode into the clearing. She felt drained-obiviously not of blood, that would be stupid-no, she felt kinda tired. Maybe it was because today had been a long day. She laughed, finally realising what was so stupid about her thought. I can't ever have a long day-my day never ends!!! She chuckled. Any weriness was gone, replaced by a slightly more maddening emotion.
She wasn't alone here. Gem sighed, She couldn't go anywhere without someone being there...
Tensing, Gem walked over. The guy here was asleep. Or in a simular state;with non-human types, it wasn't easy to understand. Even though Gem had been on the earth for a while now...
Sighing again, she decided to wait, hoping that she'd be able to do it without getting angry...

Cana powered up with a flash. Obvously, the family tree was not a fruit tree. If it had been, he would have feed himself, but he still coulden't find ONE STINKING COMPUTER IN THIS WHOLE TOWN!!! He was running on his backup battery now, and all systems were at minimum efficency. The sights were, indistincet. Something was there, but he coulen't see it. Scanning.. scan.. sc...

The pemoinc system gave out, and he was knocked into hibernation once again, his hands clutching a note. FEED ME! It read, scoured by the digestive enzymes dripping from his hanging mouth

Gem jumped back as Cana suddenly 'powered up'.
"Don't do that, Cana-" she complained, before realising that he was in a state of not really listening. Gem watched him. Cana was funny, in a way. She couldn't tell what he was. But he was almost a...computer like being, a robot in some ways...although he looked human. She shrugged. He started doing that scanning thing, so gem stood perfectly still. Then he just...stopped. He fell flat on his face. Again.
Gem hovered for a moment, unsure of what to do. If he woke up again, that would surprise her a little-she'd be half-way up a tree. He couldn't stay like that though...he looked weak. Something tugged at Gem's dead heart, and she darted towards him.
A note-covered with something wet-was hanging there with him.
FEED ME! It read. That was all. I guess that's why he's weak... Gem thought sadly. "What can I do-oh. Right. Cana?" She asked his lifeless body. "I really hope you don't get killed. So I'm gonna catch something for you. By transforming." Gem smiled a little, and concentrated. She got taller and faster and stronger. Her already beautiful self changed-her hair became sleeker and shinyer. Her black eyes were red. It was complete.
The vampire Gem sniffed the air. Something was approching. It was out in the open...time to attack!!!

(Go ahead, I'm not going to wake up. My powers out)

"Ugh. Cats," Gem complained, balling her hands into fists. "Why are there so many around?"
As she spoke, a lion came into the clearing. "Here we go again," Gem muttered darkly, walking towards it. Wait...walking?!
She blinked. She shrunk. Now her eyes were black again. She tried changing back. She couldn't. And because she couldn't change, she couldn't take on a lion. But because she'd been noticed, the lion could take on her.
Gem shook, rooted to the spot. What am I meant to do? I can't change! I can't attack. I can't run. Gem panicked, moving backwards slowly. "Not good," she whispered. The lion would wait. It would wait for her to get tired. And to get her tired it would...
"Ow! It scratched me! Why did I let it do that?" Gem looked at her side. She was lucky her skin was no match for a claw; if she was human, she'd be dead. "Okay...I can't do anything to help. I can't even protect Cana. So now it looks like I'm in danger. Again. Great..."

(pleas alow me to point out that my battery is, indeed, dead. Theirfore, until I get something in my systems, I can not do a thing.)

"Aww...no...I'll try again!" Gem said determindly, closing her eyes and concentating.
This time, it appeared to work. "More cats? Just for him?" The vampire sighed. It was over pretty quickly. So was the changing. So it was left to human-ish Gem to shove 'food' down Cana's throat.
"Okay, okay, I gave you food! Now wake up, please! It's boring talking to a lifeless...person!"

"HELLO, I AM CANA, PROPERTY OF AZTECHNOLOGY. HOW MAY I SERVE YOU?" The core greeting burst out unwillingly. Did I just say that? In front of *gulp* HER

"Um, hey their Gem. Whats u-HACK"

The hairball burst out of Cana's throat, nailing the vampire straght in the face. He blushed an infernal rust, appaled by his own actions.

" I'M SORRY, forgive me," he pleeded as he snatched the fuzz off Gem's pasty face." I don't know whats come over me, I kinda black outsometimes. Are you sure your ok whatever I ate might of had rabies did any get in your mouth? *Breath*

Gem smiled, giggling a little as Cana woke up. She hoped he knew she wasn't laughing at him, she just found him funny sometimes...which wasn't a bad thing. If she could've blushed, now would properly have been the time that it would've happened.
Something hit her in the face, which Cana quickly removed, apologising as he did so.
Feeling flustered, she blinked shyly. "Hi!" She said brightly, trying to cover up any actions of embarressment. Giggling, she spoke again. "It's okay. I understand. Even I get tired sometimes. Although I don't black out...other things happen. But, um, anyway!" Gem shrugged off that topic. Why couldn't she say anything without feeling shy?
"Rabies?" she tried again. "I guess that's an advantage of being um...my kind. We don't get ill." Gem smiled. "Thanks for worrying though...it's always nice to be thought of..."

Cana smiled

"Um... Gem?" he whispered. " I have a confession to make."

NO NO NO! His shell mentally screamed! BAD MIND, GIRL NOT LIKE YOU

" Well, um, you see, when I heard you... confess on the beach, i releized I wasen't being equally honest. I've denied my humanity to long, and you at least deserve to know."

His gaze drifted self-concioussly towerd the rooted earth " You were at least born human. You had a childhood, and a family, right? I count you lucky," he sobbed. "I don't even have that! I'm a technomancer! Artifical Intelligence in a prison of flesh, and I don't even control it all the time! I'm being hunted down by my creator for research, my source for uploading, and my sister for scrap! And if you tell anybody," his eyes narrowed warrly."May my little electric brothers never assist you again."

Gem smiled still, although it did get smaller.
"Huh. So you think I'd tell someone. You think I'd tell someone something I hadn't been given permission to tell." She felt confused. It felt kind of bittersweet. "Why would I tell someone? It's really nothing to do with me. Yet you told me. What would that make me if I told someone? What would people think of me if I told someone? What would I really get out of it?" Gem asked, folding her arms almost stubbornly. Now she felt annoyed.
Cana thought she was lucky to have been born a human? Gem wasn't sure about that either.
"My parents. I don't think they truely loved me. My purpose was to get married to some rich guy. I was there for nothing else but that point. Lucky to be human? I'm not so sure about that. Human senses-sight, espicially-don't pick up every little detail. Each line between the lines," she said, sighing now. "It was by some miracle that I loved the guy they suited me to. Well. I loved him once. Now I can see that I was a trophy. I don't ever regret my life thus far. Even though when I was a human...I was nothing but a prize to people I knew," she added harshly, frowning at the thought of the whole wedding being fake.
Stupid human eyes, she thought. I saw lies the whole time.

Cana hesitated. TO MUCH INPUT... LOADING.... LOADING... got it

" It... it's not like that. Just, I'm never safe. My creator has ears everywere, and my internet acess is still coded in. If any word gets out that Aztech's little rouge AI is still out there.." optical percipitation. " I'll be hacked before you can say HeadCrash."

" Don't get me wrong, you had plenty of chances to kill me. I trust you with this. Emotion just... conflicts with me, as one can very well imagine. Your suiter, you said you LOVED him, correct? To a point, I comprend that, mutal attraction for species propigation. But, LOVE... what is it relly? My shell, it still has a mind. The one you say in the mists, that has a differnt idea of "love" that you may not want to know. To him, you WERE just a prize. Also, LOVING a child? It doesen't connect, were does this come in? They are just another species member, nothing more."

Cana reached into his pocket, pulling out a slightly worn, cell phone like device. " You now know my secret, so take a bit of me. Say hello to my old commlink, a stock Nintendo Orb. It's a bit of an early model, but it hooks up just fine." he placed in in Gem's palm, their hands touching momentarly.

"This puts a different slant on things." Gem raised one eyebrow, almost questioning her whole existance. "I'm not sure what love really is. It has to be something shared between...two...because...that's all I'm sure of. I think." Working things out was strange. Gem didn't want to ask the vampire-it didn't talk about things like this. It didn't want to feel much emotion...
Gem was handed something, which she took, looking at it, pretty much fascinated. Her hair slid forwards from behind her ears and shoulders, covering her face from view. But she was happy again.
"Thanks. For this and for telling me that," she said in a low voice. "I should've said this before, not got offended...maybe...maybe she isn't always locked away...?"

Gem smiled. It was always odd to see a vampire smiling, not knowing if she was seeking your acceptance or blood. She... computes, Cana thought. We are both in the same boat, barring the whole creator/created superiorty complex.

" Not locked away, I think. Only suppordatae. You will ALWAYS be Gem, don't let your body tell you otherwise. It happens to me, and it ain't pretty."

Cana kneeled into the soil, almost channeling the pulsing life of the tree. " You are the importent one here Gem. Between the two of us, only one is creator, and the other created. Simply remember this, I will always protect you, my core programing answers all calls. Do what you will, but I shall come if you ask for me."

Stepping back to his feet, Cana brushed the hair from Gem's face.

"Now, I must go procure funds. If you have anymore to communicate, say so now"

Gem stood up, laughing. "Maybe you're not sure what the heck you just got yourself into. Protecting a vampire? Shouldn't you be keeping watch for your sister?" She asked. "Besides...what's the worst that could happen?" She giggled, shrugging.
Gem was about to walk away, but she stopped. "Um, Cana? It was nice speaking to you today. See you around."

She truly is the one who does not understand he smirked Untel that day that she sees herself as the creator, and sees me as the ... object I am
